THE BRUNEI DARUSSALAM MARITIME MUSEUM
The Maritime Museum is located in Kota Batu, and represents the historical repository of maritime which include artifacts and craftsmanship during various era. This museum was constructed under the 10thNational development plan with a budget of BND 5 million on a 3.53 hectares (8.74 acres) of land.
The concept of the maritime museum building is a front view of a ship which reflect the involvement of Brunei Darussalam as one of the trade center in the past.
The maritime museum has 2 galleries:
1. BRUNEI'S SHIPWRECK
This gallery features the discovery of Brunei's shipwreck in 1997. This discovery is an important finding in the history of Brunei's maritime because it shows the role of Brunei in maritime trade with other countries in the late 15thcentury to the early 16thcentury.
2. KOTA BATU AS A TRADE CENTER
Kota Batu is an important archeological site in Brunei Darussalam. This site represents the capital city of Brunei from the 14thcentury to the 17thcentury. During that time, Kota Batu was the center of government, trade and settlement. The aim of this exhibition is to show how far the importance of river to the people of Brunei through the models of boats that can be found in Brunei.
